Think Tank Wrap Up

When Sonia and I started the blog, we had committed to creating content regularly, engaging with you all often, and also to keep learning.  We have attended conferences in the past, but this past year we have really amped up our affiliate game (see our post on How Blogger Make Money here).  We are starting to build relationships with brands that we shop often and truly love. Now was the time for us to understand what being a true brand ambassador means.

Think Tank 2019

When we learned that Think Tank was happening in Chicago this summer we had to check it out. After two days of networking and learning, we want to share what we learned.

Brands Love Bloggers

This was a relief.  We met with so many brands that all agree that they are JUST NOW starting to really dig into using bloggers to do their advertising.  As publishers, bloggers work hard to create content and share it in a meaningful way.  It felt good to hear that brands find value in what we do.

Sister Bloggers

Everyone is a Winner

Brands see usage of affiliate links as a win for them and for the publishers.  Bloggers can negotiate commissions with brands (via affiliate managers) that they are looking for a long term relationship with which makes the collaboration mutually beneficial.  The number one way to get registered as an affiliate is via Share A Sale. On that platform you can apply to thousands of brands’ affiliate platforms at one time.  If you want to know more about this comment below and we will get in touch.

Bloggers Can  Really Cash In

As I mentioned above, once you are an approved affiliate for a particular brand and have developed a track record supporting them, you can negotiate for higher commissions.  This makes sharing what you love so much more fun!  You can also negotiate how you prefer to be paid out; CPA (cost per acquisition), flat fee, hybrid models, and more.

Among affiliates, bloggers make up the largest group.  So this means that if we support each other and support people that truly inspire us to shop, it works for everyone.  If you would like to know more, let me know and I would be happy to share.

As of now, Chicks And Salsa are affiliates for Spanx, Nordstrom, ChicWish, TULA, Civant, and Shein.  We are also publishers on RewardStyle and 21 Buttons (both of which I have written about here).

Thanks for your interest in this post.

Your Chick,

Rina

Get the Edgy Yet Elegant Look With These Capes

For the past three years my best friend has been bugging me about buying a scarf or cape (thanks Vanessa!)  I am typically a sweatshirt or athleisure type of girl when it comes to bundling up, but last year I went for it and scooped up a few of these goodies and never looked back.  To tell you the truth these capes have become my #1 travel accessory because with the kids they double up as a blanket too.

I think of it as the edgy, yet, elegant way to travel.  As it turns out, these pieces are chic, simple, and incredibly warm – what’s not to love?  I did splurge this year and buy the Burberry Merino Cape, but I also have several that I have picked up under $50 that have amazing reviews.

One Cape, Three Ways

Tip: Beware of 100% wool capes / ponchos, they will be too itchy to enjoy, instead reach for wool blends and ALWAYS read reviews.

Remember this look from last year?

Thanks for checking out this post!

Personal Note:

*Before I get into about what our season’s picks for the cape trend this year are, I wanted to take a minute to let you know how much we appreciate all of your support with our blog these past few years.  We enjoy trying news things and sharing what works for us with you guys and as ‘bloggers’ we do put in a lot of time and effort to create the content to go with it.  Your likes, comments, shares, emails, and purchases have all been ways that you all are showing us so much love across our channels.  We use affiliate links and do make a small commission off of purchases that you make.  We use that to help grow the blog.  If you enjoy following Chicks And Salsa, please share us with your friends so that we can continue to grow as creators and bring more interesting content to you.  *

Mad About Plaid

There are some annual trends that are so consistent that I don’t have to let go of those pieces from year to year. Once the weather turns and the colors (for me, mainly black) turn to orange, rust, brown, and yellow, we turn to plaid to help ring in the new season.

Well, kind of.

I love black – so when I found this black and white plaid blazer I knew I had to have it. It’s the perfect compromise for someone like me not totally ready to commit to the fall palette but ready to layer up! This blazer from TopShop is different though – it is jersey knit and double breasted which means it is super soft to the touch, has a little bit of give to it, and looks as amazing as it feels.  Jersey knits are a staple in my wardrobe all year round — special shout-out to my jersey maxi dresses that keep me going through the summers.

The Look

You can see from my feed, unknowingly I have acquired many TopShop items lately, whether it is from Nordstom or TopShop itself.  I guess TopShop’s style speaks to me – like this animal print crossbody (pictured here)or leopard print dress that I have rocked in multiple ways. They do a good job of staying on trend. Even with accessories, trendy resin earrings are from TopShop too ($18)!

I take inspiration from many fashion bloggers (Sarah from House of Sequin is a favorite lately!) when I put together an outfit and this look is no different.   Mixing and matching vibes by pairing my rocker tee and blazer is just one inspired look that I have tried.  Anyone can recreate this with what they already have in their closet — its a good excuse to pull out that comfy tee.

Thanks for all the love you showed this look on Instagram. I have reviewed several of my handbags in this video so check it out for details on sizing and styling.

As always, thank you for checking out this post.  If you have not already, consider subscribing to our channel on YouTube for a closer look at who the chicks are.

Cheers,
