Tips for Choosing The Right Foundation

Hey there, Chicks! Today, let’s dive into one of the most crucial steps in our makeup routine: finding the perfect foundation match. As we age, our skin evolves, and so do our needs when it comes to makeup. So, whether you’re dealing with fine lines and wrinkles or just looking to achieve that flawless finish, I’ve got you covered with some savvy tips to ensure you’re picking the right foundation every time.

  1. Know Your Skin Type: Understanding your skin type is key to selecting the right foundation. Is your skin oily, dry, combination, or normal? Different formulas work better for different skin types. For instance, if you have oily skin, opt for oil-free or matte foundations to control shine. Dry skin? Look for hydrating or luminous formulas to add moisture and glow. I have normal skin; sometimes it is dry, and sometimes it is oily. My go-to moisturizer with SPF works for me all year long; shop it here. For my chicks with drier skin, use a hydrating spray, I keep the small bottles everywhere, in my car, makeup bag, and travel bag!
  2. Identify Your Undertone: This is a game-changer! Undertones come in three main categories: warm, cool, and neutral. Knowing yours can help you choose a foundation that blends seamlessly with your skin. Quick tip: Check the veins on your wrist. If they appear greenish, you likely have warm undertones. If they appear bluish, you’re more on the cool side. If you can’t really tell, you might have neutral undertones. For a lighter foundation finish, try my new favorite tinted balm.
  1. Test, Test, Test: Never underestimate the power of testing foundation before purchasing. Swipe a few shades in natural light along your jawline (not just your wrist!). The right shade should disappear seamlessly into your skin. Don’t be afraid to ask for samples to try out in different lighting throughout the day. This is where shopping online is hard, take a few minutes to go into the store to try and test.
  2. Consider Coverage and Finish: Foundations come in various coverages, from sheer to full. Consider what level of coverage you prefer and what your skin needs. As for the finish, options range from matte to dewy. If you have mature skin, you might want to lean towards hydrating or satin finishes to avoid accentuating fine lines. The older I get, the lighter my coverage gets. Check out my current foundation favorites.
  3. Don’t Forget SPF: Sun protection is non-negotiable! Opt for a foundation with added SPF to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. While this isn’t a substitute for dedicated sunscreen, it’s an extra layer of defense, especially if you wear makeup daily.
  4. Adapt with the Seasons: Your skin tone can change throughout the year, so don’t be surprised if you need to switch shades with the seasons. Consider having a lighter shade for winter when your skin may be paler and a slightly darker one for summer when you have a bit more color.

Remember, the perfect foundation should enhance your natural beauty, not mask it. So, take your time, experiment, and embrace your unique glow! With these tips, you’re on your way to flawless, fabulous skin. Stay beautiful, inside and out!

Picking The Right Mascara

Choosing the right mascara can enhance your eyelashes and complete your desired makeup look. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a mascara:

  1. Definition vs. Volume: Determine whether you want to focus on defining your lashes or adding volume; some mascaras are specifically formulated to provide length and definition, while others focus on adding fullness and volume.
  2. Brush Shape: Different mascara wands have varying shapes and bristle arrangements, which affect the application and outcome. For example, curved wands are designed to lift and curl lashes, while straight wands can help separate and define them. Test different brush shapes to see which one suits your lashes best.
  3. Formula Type: Mascaras come in different formulas, such as waterproof, smudge-proof, or regular. Waterproof mascara is water-resistant, making it ideal for occasions like swimming or rainy days. Smudge-proof mascaras are designed to prevent smearing or flaking throughout the day. Regular formulas are easy to remove with regular makeup remover. Choose a formula based on your needs and preferences.
  4. Desired Look: Consider the look you want to achieve. Opt for a lengthening mascara with a lighter formula if you prefer a natural, subtle look. Choose a volumizing mascara or a thicker formula for more dramatic or bold lashes. Some mascaras also offer a combination of lengthening and volumizing properties.

Lancome has a collection of mascaras to help you achieve your desired look!

Here is a full comparison and review of their top-selling mascaras:

Remember to replace your mascara every three to six months to maintain its effectiveness and prevent the risk of eye infections.

Ultimately, the best mascara for you will depend on your personal preferences, desired results, and unique lash characteristics. Experimenting with different brands and types of mascaras will help you find the perfect one for your lashes.

Mimosas and Makeup with Ricardo Costales

**Sale Alert: Friends And Family is happening NOW!! Use code: FRIENDS and stock up!**

When celebrity make up artist Ricardo Costales comes to your town, you find time to get there for the latest tips in skin care and make up.  In my town in middle Georgia we don’t get opportunities like this often so I knew I had to make the best of it.

I rounded up my friends for this annual event at our Lancome counter located in our local Belk store and started off our day with mimosas and makeovers! There were nine make up artists that had come in from Atlanta to glam us all up! The team was as glamorous as the event space that they had carved out from the store.

Shop My Outfit:

I am already a Lancome customer, but there were some new products that I wanted to share with you that I scooped up.

My Lancome Faves:

If you have not tried micellar water as a makeup remover yet,  you must! This water based product has the oils in it separated at the molecular level to attracts makeup and dirt to get it off your face. Its incredible! With very little scrubbing Bi Facil gets the job done – even my favorite waterproof mascara!

They have an amazing line of foundation sticks, but I went really dark on the color and use the foundation stick as a contour stick (the color I use is 555-Suede linked here) because its so silky smooth and easy to blend.  I blend for ALL evening events that I attend – it makes my make up more ‘fierce.’

Lastly, speaking of foundations, if you use a liquid foundation consider using this foundation brush when you can’t grab for the beauty blender(or don’t have water to make it damp). This brush is so soft and spreads beautifully to get you the coverage you need.

Thank you so much to all my friends who came out to attend this event and a major shout out to the team at Belk for hosting events like this in communities all over the country!

Sonicblend Brush VS Beauty Blender

When I received the Michael Todd Beauty Sonicblend Brush for the holidays I was super excited to try it and see how it compares to my tried and true Beauty Blender.  Make up application is a part of my everyday routine, I have simply made it a habit to never leave the house without it.   I am always looking for new ways to speed up my routine and love seeing what new products are out there.

Sonicblend Brush VS Beauty Blender

Check out my video to see what happens when I apply foundation to half my face with the Beauty Blender and apply foundation to the other half with my new Sonicblend brush.

Although I still LOVE the Beauty Blender I dare say that the Sonicblend Brush has a more ‘done up’ finish (which I prefer!) whereas with the Beauty Blender you can still kind of see your skin through the application which creates a more natural looking finish unless you layer up!  Also the Sonicblend brush does not require water for application so your finish benefits from the full foundation coverage whereas with the Beauty Blender your foundation can get watered down.

I loved testing out this new product and lately I have been sharing my thoughts on our YouTube channel, tell us what you think and if you like what you see, hit subscribe!  For more of our other beauty hacks, click here.
